ABOUT JEREMY

jeremy.jpg

Hello, and welcome to my practice.

My mission is to help others live more meaningful, fulfilling lives. I offer a unique therapy experience—blending existential philosophy with empowering, compassionate, strengths-based psychotherapy. I am a Columbia University trained psychotherapist and specialize in treating anxiety, depression, life transitions and lack of purpose. My expertise is in treating the existential problems of professional artists and creatives.

I believe that what makes therapy successful isn’t only the intellectual stuff, it’s the relationship stuff. I aspire above all to create a genuine relationship with you that is warm, accepting, respectful, trustworthy and dependable. My job is to help you feel safe in order to explore your feelings, beliefs, behaviors and worldview with me.

I look forward to our work together.

APPROACH / SPECIALTIES

EXISTENTIAL-HUMANISTIC THERAPY

Existential therapy values and respects you as a living, incomparable person. It seeks to understand you as a dynamic and flowing being by exploring your experience of your world—what it’s like to be you now and who you hope to become tomorrow.

You are a conscious, free subject. You are not an object. You can make choices.

Being a subject and making choices is exciting. But also scary. This anxiety is normal. We can learn a lot from it.

There’s safety in being an object. It removes the burden of deciding, but limits your growth and potential. Existential therapy helps you fulfill your potential by reconnecting you with yourself as a conscious, growing, unique subject imbued with strength of will and freedom to choose the meaning and direction of your life.

STRENGTHS-BASED THERAPY

I am a strengths-based therapist: this means that I believe that you are trustworthy, resourceful, capable of self-understanding, self-direction, and able to make constructive changes to live an effective and productive life. I believe that our problems conceal hidden strengths.

I can help you with tough choices, not by choosing for you, but by tapping into your inner knowledge and capacity to define and solve your problems. I believe that you are the expert on your life and situation. I believe you are resilient and can thrive.

THERAPY FOR ARTISTS & CREATIVES

I am passionate about art and creativity. I believe that artists frequently encounter the anxiety of freedom in the process of creating their work. I'd love to support you in finding your purpose and courage to create.

COUNSELING FOR LIFE & CAREER TRANSITIONS

Life sometimes comes at us fast. If you find yourself struggling with a relationship and life transition, or a career pivot, therapy can help you adapt to change in a positive and meaningful way by offering compassion and support as you weather the storm. Change can be a catalyst for personal growth, greater resilience, and increased confidence.

Approach
Testimonials

We will explore how you’ve been defined by others versus who you want to be and why. The why is important: having a mission is a powerful antidote to anxiety and depression.

“A person who has a why to live for can bear almost any how or what.”
